When it was time to movie Lexie into a new room, I was so nervous about the change. At first, she was not thrilled with the idea of giving up her crib for Baby Brother, but when she learned that it meant she got her very own big girl bed, she was on board! We took her to test mattresses, showed her pictures of the bedroom set we were getting, and always talked it up and got her excited. I think this is why the transition went so well! The first few nights were tough, as we expected, but then she settled right in and after a week was sleeping better through the night than she had been in her crib! Thank you Jesus!
The thing I was most excited about was finally having enough space in her room for the majority of her toys, so they are no longer taking up the living room! Gotta make room for all that baby gear after all...
She loves playing in her room. Mostly making tea and washing dishes in her kitchen, or reading to her babies in her teepee. This was a gift for her 1st Birthday that my Dad helped me out with. It was so simple, and I love the look of it. My Dad hunted down the perfect posts, I found the lace on sale at a local fabric shop, and this garland from Peach and Lulu really finished it off! And of course this deer rug that Justin spotted at Cabela's and just HAD to get for her. She loves snuggling in here, but really, who wouldn't?!
These woodland prints were custom made for Lexie from our friend Jenaya at Poppy and Lace, and they are PERfect! Lexie gave each of them a big hug when she saw them!
Kids seem to go through phases with everything, including their favourite toys. Lexie likes to keep her favourite treasures close, especially at bedtime. Sometimes she insists that they be in her bed with her when she goes to sleep, and sometimes the nightstand will do. She cycles through these treasures every few days, but the one thing that has always remained her favourite is rocks. Most of them are from our driveway. I find them everywhere. Pockets, her backpack, purses, doll bed, and washing machine. And when we get a big enough pile I can convince her that we need to release some to be with their rock friends in the driveway. She's usually happy to do this, but the really special ones need to stay by her bed. The trinket dish is from Three Corners Artisan, and makes the perfect rock holder ;)
I was super happy to get these bookshelves up. I thought it was a genius way to get things off the floor, and just out of reach so they wouldn't always be all over her room. Clearly I forgot that she is a toddler, and it took her about 4 seconds to climb on up onto her toy chest and grab them herself.
I love this little gallery above Lexie's bed! There are SO many options when it comes to decorating a blank wall, but I like that this can be added to over time. This sign that reads "You Are Fearfully And Wonderfully Made" is from A Little Love Creative, and although Lexie is not reading yet, I love that it speaks truth to her every day. I hope that this is a verse that she holds close as she grows up and goes through the struggles that young girls do.
The hanging shelf from Pacific Coast DIY is so versatile, it would be perfect for an heirloom doll, or those special keepsakes that you want kept just out of reach! And the pastel colours are perfect in her room! You'll probably recognize the dream catcher from Jae to the Wall, its because we have a similar one in our master bedroom!
I really wanted her room to be a space that encouraged her to play and make believe, and so far it has! I am excited to watch her with her baby brother but for now I am really enjoying our time with just her, watching her play, listening to her stories, and seeing her little imagination run wild!
